Go ‘deeper’ during your scuba training

Опубликовано 19.05.202619.05.2026

Diving to a great depth does not necessarily have to be measured in metres or other units of seawater measurement. Remember that what is important is not how far down you can swim, but how prepared you are, how you feel, and what you want. This article explores the question not of diving as an action, but of diving as a part of life. If you lack depth in your relationship with the sea, or if you don’t know exactly what you want, here are a few options to change that. Before exploring the marine world, explore yourself.

This is important to do

Let’s start with philosophy and a few deep questions. What is important to you? In your heart of hearts, what do you want to achieve? Is it important for you to be first somewhere? Or do you want to see something specific? What drives you? Curiosity, connection, adventure, or learning? Independence and a drive for achievement? Or do you just want to exist in an amazing underwater world? Whatever you choose, diving can be your way to gain access to it. Choose activities, trips, and courses based on what you consider important, and then every dive will be able to bring meaning to your life.

Explore your options

There are worlds within worlds, and you might not have found yours yet! There are so many opportunities to go diving. There are tons of communities where you can feel at home. You just need to find yours. Ask around, learn about different diving cultures and methods. Explore the types of diving you can do. It can all go far beyond recreational, technical, or professional. For example, you can do dives for citizen science projects, conservation organizations, and even engage in underwater archaeology! You might be interested in observing life off the shores of seas and oceans, or perhaps you would prefer descending to where there is no sunlight, where there is only you, a canister diving torch, and amazing creatures that few have seen. Read, listen to podcasts, talk to every diver you meet. Stay open and find your passion in the many worlds of diving.

Play with your perspective

One of the most exciting things about scuba diving is what it does to our perspective. Objects appear closer or larger than they are, but that’s just the beginning. Scuba diving can truly challenge our view not only of this world but of ourselves. By trying new ways of diving and pushing yourself to learn new skills, you will definitely find parts of yourself you haven’t met yet.

Earn your experience

Divers grow through experience. We can create the best opportunities for learning, take a masterclass from outstanding individuals. But this doesn’t mean all dives will be easy. Although that is a plus too. Of course, you must strive for a safe dive, including during training. You must go through all the formalities and follow the appropriate procedures. And you certainly don’t need to take unnecessary risks. But all this means only one thing: if you try something new and something doesn’t go according to plan, that’s fine! For example, it’s normal that you cannot understand something when learning new skills. In addition, some dives will feel like a cold, wet, and unpleasant rainy day — it happens. But if you want to become a diver, use this experience for your development. You don’t need to quit your training because of minor problems, and you shouldn’t get upset if something didn’t go the way it was supposed to. If your light went dead once, it’s just experience. Next time, you will buy another diving torch and won’t make such a mistake. That’s all.

Whatever stage of diving you are at right now, remember that the ocean awaits you!
